Odessa National Medical University Ukraine began its activities in 1900 as the medical faculty of Novorossiysk University. In 1920 the medical faculty was transformed into a medical academy, and in 1921 it became an independent medical institute (since 1954, it was named after MI Pirogov). By the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers on August 29, 1994, it was granted the status of a university. In 2010, the university was granted national status.
The institution started in 1900 as the medical faculty of the Novorossiyskiy State University in Odessa. The medical faculty soon became one of the most prestigious medical faculties in the Russian Empire. Many famous medical scientists, including Nobel laureate and professor I. I. Mechnikov worked here.
