The Bihar University of Health Sciences (BUHS) Patna was officially founded on July 1, 2022, by the Government of Bihar under the Bihar University of Health Sciences Act 2021 (Bihar Act 19 of 2021). This establishment aimed to bring together all existing health science colleges and institutions, previously affiliated with conventional universities in Bihar, under a unified umbrella. The objective is to guarantee organized, systematic, and consistent instruction, teaching, training, and research in both modern and traditional Indian systems of medicine.
The Bihar University of Health Sciences operates with the Chief Minister of Bihar serving as its chancellor. The university officially commenced its activities upon the appointment of Dr. Surendra Nath Sinha as its inaugural vice-chancellor
