Gomel State Medical University Belarus[1] dates back to 1990 when the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the BSSR dated November 14, 1990, No. 284 and the order of the Minister of Health of the BSSR dated November 20, 1990, No. 188, to ensure the training of doctors and highly qualified specialists for the most affected by the disaster on Chornobyl nuclear power plant in the Gomel and Mogilev regions, in November 1990, the Gomel State Medical Institute was opened.
The university organizes the educational process in 5 faculties: medical, medical diagnostic; faculty of international students; pre-university training; advanced training and retraining. Three thousand eight hundred fifty-seven students, graduate students, and clinical residents study at the university, including 717 foreign citizens from 29 countries who receive education in Russian and English.
