Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences formerly known as UP Rural Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, was established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2006. Initially, it operated as a state-run medical college affiliated with Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur, and approved by the National Medical Commission. In 2016, under Act 15, the institute was reconstituted and upgraded to the Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences, Saifai.
