Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore, was founded in 1980 by the Vokkaligara Sangh. It is considered one of the best medical institutes in Karnataka. The Vokkaligara Sangha made a formal decision on 2nd September 1979 to start a medical college from 1980-81 and applied for permission from the registrar of Bangalore University. The college is commonly known as KIMS Bangalore. It is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and approved by the NMC.
