University of Zambia is located in Lusaka and is the largest and oldest university in Zambia. It was established in 1965 and opened to the public on July 12, 1966. The university has two campuses in Lusaka. The main campus called the Great East Road Campus, is on Great East Road, about 6 km from the town center. The other campus, known as the Ridgeway Campus, houses the Medical School and is on John Mbita Road, 4 km southeast of Lusaka, across from the University Teaching Hospital.
